Born and raised in Southern California, photography influenced Cyndia at a young age. Family members in the printing and photography industries gave her the opportunity and admiration for images and capturing moments. She attended Point Loma College, in San Diego, CA for the Communications/ Music program; then, in 1989, she transferred to the Music/ Video program at the Art Institute of Seattle. During that time, she became an intern DJ for two years at the historic Seattle based KCMU (now KEXP) college radio station for the University of Washington. She also promoted local bands and was the Assistant Office Manager for Roundup Music Distribution Center until April 1992. She had the opportunity to photograph local bands and events using still and video cameras, but Seattle also became the base of her career as a sports photographer. Since her early childhood, she has been passionate about cycling, racing and an active lifestyle. She began to photograph friends during mountain bike and cyclocross races, which eventually crossed over into other sports, like sailing, triathlons, surfing, swimming, baseball, soccer paddling and Jiu Jitsu.
She permanently relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii, and was involved in the local sailing community. Racing and crewing sailboats, she worked as a professional sailor around the Hawaiian Islands and beyond for 10 years. She delivered the Santa Cruz 70 "Grand Illusion" (2011 Transpacific Yacht Race winner) to the US mainland, and crewed aboard the 60ft Lidgard "Final Approach" for three months in Europe. Sailing has not been the only sport that has tested her limits. In 1992, the experienced cyclist rode down the coast from Seattle to San Francisco. Afterwards, she became a Seattle bike messenger for a year. She remains active, and is a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu as well as a Jiu Jitsu instructor.
Currently, Cyndia is the Property Photographer for eHawaiiProperty.com. She graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. She has also been a contributing photographer for Hawaii Sport magazine since 2012, and is a member of the Professional Photographers of America.
Quote: "I mainly feel like I am an observer of the world. I consider myself a documentary photographer that specializes in Sports and Fine Art; but I'm passionate about all photography genres. I enjoy meeting people and you can often find me on the beaches of Hawaii; however, my most important moments are spent being Mom."
